Cookies and Similar Technologies Policy

Last updated 10 July 2023

We, Assemble Technologies Pty Ltd ACN 620 609 430 and our affiliates, including Assemble Technologies UK Ltd company no. 13893380 (collectively Atticus, we, us, our) wish to let you and other users know how and when we use cookies and similar technologies on our website, app and other online services.

This policy should be read in conjunction with the privacy policy available on our website which further explains how we process personal information collected through cookies and similar technologies.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?

These are technologies that enable us to store information, or access information stored, on your device such as your computer, smartphone, or other device.

  • Cookies are small text files sent to or accessed by your web browser which will enable you to navigate our online services and features. Cookies sit on your device and make themselves known to us when you access online services such as our website or app. We see how you as our returning user navigate our online services on different occasions and what content you might be interested in.
  • Pixels or tags are tiny graphics files that are downloaded when you interact with our online services. This will then alert us that you have clicked on content, opened our email or other action. These are typically used to capture interaction information and measure the relevance of our content.
  • Tracking URLs are custom generated links that help us understand which page you come to us from and later go to.
  • Local storage session storage and similar technologies are used to more efficiently manage the storage of information that allows you to access our online services on your device.
  • Digital fingerprint is used to recognise your device based on your device & browser data without relying on cookies.

2. Why do we use cookies and similar technologies?

Like most organisations with online presence, we use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • provide and adapt our online services which is not possible without certain essential cookies;
  • remember functional details such as your settings and preferences to improve your experience, speed up your searches, and recognise you when you return to our service;
  • understand our application usage and online traffic through analytics tools; and
  • connect you with our social media and other third party features and online services; and
  • personalise and benchmark our advertising and marketing.

To accomplish this, we will, in certain cases, also link information from cookies and similar technologies with personal information held about you.

3. Whose cookies and similar technologies are deployed in connection with my device?

Cookies and similar technologies are deployed by ourselves and by third parties.

For example, third party cookies are used by analytics service providers to report to us on the number and the basic demographics of our website visitors. Some social media cookies may remember your browsing activity on our website and group together your interests which they know, observe or infer to send you personalised ads once you visit the social media site or app. Such personalisation is typically possible because of profiling based on your behaviour and preferences carried out with information collected through cookies and similar technologies.

4. How long are cookies used?

The lifespan of each cookie will depend on their purpose. We use both session and persistent cookies. Session cookies only last until you close your browser. Persistent cookies aren't automatically deleted when you close your browser as their purpose is to recognise returning users.

5. You can control cookies and similar technologies

When you use our services, essential cookies and similar technologies which are required to provide and adapt our services will be set on your device. Non-essential ones will also be set if you accept cookies and similar technologies by selecting your choices in the cookie banner.

As already mentioned, some cookies are provided by third parties and your acceptance of cookies will extend to such third parties. This means, for example, that if you choose to accept "Analytics" cookies this will constitute consent for us to use Google Analytics but also consent for Google to deploy its cookies which collect statistical information about how users interact with our services.

In rare situations, compatibility issues may arise which will prevent our cookie banner from respecting your choices. However, you can take the following further steps to opt out by:

  • turning off the automatic download feature in your browser;
  • using cookie management tools within your browser, where you can select which sites can or cannot use cookies. This documentation is usually found in the settings of the web browser you use;
  • opting out from online interest-based advertising from companies that participate in opt-out programs through the Digital Advertising Alliance, the Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance, Appchoices or Network Advertising Initiative. We do not participate but some of our advertising partners do; and
  • opting out from third party services that deploy cookies and similar technologies, such as Google Analytics, by visiting www.google.com/settings/ads or by downloading the opt-out add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Please be aware that if you opt-out of certain cookies, some or all of the functionality of our online services may not be available to you, and you may worsen your overall experience.

6. What happens if I delete or block cookies?

If you clear cookies in the browser on your device, the next time you visit our online services, cookies and similar technologies will be deployed again. You can prevent this by permanently blocking them in your browser.

By blocking cookies, you may experience a reduced service. For example, opting out of the placement of advertising cookies does not necessarily mean that you will not see advertisements – it means you won't see personalised advertising.

Please note that if you change your settings to block cookies in your browser but later request services by interacting with our service features (e.g. you click on a social media plug-in on our website), this may override your browser or device settings and allow for cookies and similar technologies to be deployed going forward.
