Safeguarding the integrity of disclosures

As a listed entity, Orica releases a range of material to the ASX and its corporate website, including financial results, investor presentations and the annual reporting suite.  

As Orica sought to streamline its complex reporting and verification procedures, the company turned to Atticus as the leading solution to expedite and strengthen the verification process, thus safeguarding the integrity of material ASX announcements and corporate reports not externally audited or reviewed.

Assistant Company Secretary, Samantha Aveling, explains that switching to Atticus was seamless, with “no steep learning curves and no lengthy project management required to introduce it to the organisation. Everybody who has been involved has been able to get up to speed very quickly… Atticus is so intuitive to use.”

Transforming Annual Reporting

According to Samantha, Atticus “significantly improves cross-functional collaboration” by enabling multiple stakeholders to work simultaneously in a single workspace and providing the ability to seamlessly coordinate sign-offs across multiple levels of the organisation.

Last financial year was the first time Orica released its annual reporting suite and financial results on the same day. Historically, these would have been released several weeks apart, as Orica’s former processes prevented verification of the full annual reporting suite in such a tight timeframe. Atticus proved crucial to achieving this. Orica’s recent Climate Action Report alone required over 200 verifications—using Atticus ensured that every statement had been verified according to best-practice processes.

“It was a monumental effort and I don’t think we could have achieved it without using Atticus,” Samantha says. “With Atticus, we were able to meet the planned annual reporting suite release date with the required level of assurance that our disclosures had been properly scrutinised, fully substantiated and accurately reported.”
