At this year’s Legal Geek conference, Atticus’s Giulia Paparella sat down with Amy Measom, Senior Associate at Pinsent Masons, to unpack how technology is reshaping the associate career path, and why those who lean into innovation are setting themselves apart.

For Amy, it’s the associates who play a pivotal role in the success of any new technology within a company. They’re the ones closest to the work, able to see where processes break down and where new tools can make a meaningful difference.

“Associates have a unique perspective,” she explained. “We know exactly where the pain points are, so we can see immediately when something will actually help.”

Simplicity Drives Adoption

At Pinsent Masons, that perspective meant recognising how time-consuming and repetitive manual verification processes had become, and identifying the need for a more streamlined, automated approach.

Atticus stood out as a product, Amy noted, because it integrated seamlessly into existing workflows. There was no heavy training burden or complex setup; just an intuitive process that mirrored how teams already worked.

“If a product takes too long to get to grips with, it won’t stick,” she said. “It has to make life easier straight away. No one has time for a steep learning curve.”

But for Amy, the benefits of intuitive technology extend well beyond ease of use or efficiency.

The real value lies in freeing up lawyers to focus on higher-value work and delivering a smoother, more consistent experience for clients.

Innovation as Career Currency

Amy went on to highlight how embracing technology can accelerate individual career development.

“Being proactive about tech adoption is noticed,” she said. “It shows leadership and a willingness to think differently, both of which are key to progression.”

Seen this way, it’s clear that associates aren’t just keeping up with new technology—they’re helping shape how their firms work and the value they deliver.

And for Amy, that shift is already changing what it looks like to build a modern legal career.
